How we'll make your dream yacht a reality

March 5th, 2026

The first step towards making your dream yacht a reality is to contact us. It sounds obvious, but many put off this first step. Like the boat owner who always seems to be preparing to leave, wanting everything to be perfect before they are ready to sail away, always doing one more job. Sometimes, we just need to act before it’s too late.

When you contact Faurby, you won’t be dealing with a local dealer or sales team; you’ll be dealing directly with Faurby’s owner, me, Thomas Hougaard. I will be happy to send you price lists, brochures and answer any questions you might have while you’re researching. When you’re ready to come to us for your next yacht, you’ll again deal directly with me.

Choosing the right Faurby for you

Most people have a preconceived idea of the size of the boat they want, however, I prefer to look at your expectations. I’m not here to sell you what we have in stock, because we don’t have any stock! I’m here to help you make the right choice. I’ll ask questions like ‘What do you dream of doing? who will you be sailing with? Will they be friends, family, or partners? Where will you be cruising? Do you prefer to anchor or visit harbours? How self-sufficient would you like to be, and how long do you want to spend between ports? Would you like to cruise the Baltic, sail the world or spend your time coastal cruising for a few weeks or a few months?’ All these have a bearing on the size and style of yacht that is right for you.

You may think a 370PC is the right choice, but through our conversation and learning more about possible layouts, you might discover that, for example, it only ticks seven out of ten of your boxes, and a 400PC ticks nine, but the 430 PC ticks all 10. The opposite might also be true: you believe the 430PC ticks all your boxes, but actually, you can achieve the same with our 400PC and gain more on-board luxuries. As versatile as we are, there may be more suitable yachts for you elsewhere, and if I don’t feel any of our yachts are the right choice for you at the moment, I will tell you. I’ll also challenge your choices to find out why you want what you want. Together with my team, we can look at solutions to reduce any negatives of your design. However, the decision is always yours, and we are here to create exactly what you want.

Cost Vs Expectations

During our first conversations, we’ll also discuss your financial expectations. This will help steer you towards not only what is possible, but also help us deliver precisely what you’ve dreamt of. I’ll be honest: if the budget you have will not get you everything you want, we’ll work to align it as closely as possible with your expectations.

On the subject of the cost, unlike some yards where prices can increase with inflation, we fix the price when you sign a contract and secure your build slot. Until the build starts, you can still add or remove items from the option list - saving or spending as you go. We can also discuss other alterations to your design, too, if necessary. In the rare event that inflation rises 5% from the time the build slot is secured, again, we don’t make you pay more to cover the increase; instead, Faurby has the option to return your deposit. Before doing so, we’ll invite you to negotiate a new price so you don’t lose out. Until a contract is in place and a build slot is secured, prices can increase due to inflation, etc.

From our initial conversation/s, the more you share about how you’ll use the boat, the better my suggestions for the layout and the size of the yacht will be. Depending on the make and model, if we have made layouts similar to our discussions, I can send some example images. If we have a similar yacht in build, you are always more than welcome to visit us here in Lunderskov.

If you are considering a Faurby, we would love to see you here at our yard. While our yachts might be far from their final finished beauty, you can fully appreciate the skill and craftsmanship that we put into each yacht. You can also take this opportunity to look at how other owners have solved issues they encountered; these will often inspire creative solutions in your new boat.

While at the yard, we can determine what you want, finalise as much as you need to commit to an initial price for a build slot. Whether that’s just the main parts of the layout, numbers of cabins/heads/navigation table/galley location, etc., or all the way down to the style of lights and colour of furnishings, everybody is different, and the level of completeness you’re happy with might differ from someone else. With the contract signed, we can open a bottle of champagne and toast your dream yacht, taking a big step closer to making it a reality.

When you leave us that day, we want you to know you have chosen the right boat and design. That said, if seeing our other boats has motivated you more and you feel you can improve your concept, anything can be changed until we start the build. Once production has started, changes become more difficult, not impossible, just more difficult.

Deciding on the layout that works for you

On more complex builds or for larger modifications, we’ll often have video calls and meetings to finalise how your yacht will look. When needed, you’ll receive designs and renderings, and you'll sign off on all the details before we start building your dream boat. Once the build starts, you are welcome to visit as often as you would like to see your yacht's progress. The build and lead times for all our models vary depending on the yachts we are building and those we’re scheduled to build.

Many owners come to us with ideas of how their dream boat should look. As their dream becomes a reality, thoughts evolve, ideas are honed, rarely is their final yacht identical to the yacht they thought they wanted when they first approached us. Because we take the time to learn about you and understand exactly what you need, we can help you refine your dream boat to a yacht that’s even better than you had imagined.
